Two electric SEATRAC disability ramps have been installed in the beaches on Alykes in Anavyssos and Galazia Akti in Lagonisi, which allows people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy completely unassisted access to the sea.
The initiative was undertaken by the Deputy Governor of Attica for Social Policy Katerina Thanopoulou and Deputy Governor of East Attica Petros Philippou, in association with the Mayor of the Saronic Giorgos Sofronis. A further nine SEATRAC ramps will be installed in Attica, as part of its program to improve access to beaches and support tourism.
The innovative SEATRAC disability ramp was designed at the University of Patra in order to facilitate access to the beach. It is composed by a fixed track mechanism in which a wheel chair can be moved in and out of the water. The SEATRAC is powered by a solar panel and does not require any special training.
