The spokesperson for the European Commission Margaritis Schinas told journalists that the new proposals submitted by the Greek government have fallen short of what it promised. Mr. Schinas then explained that «the ball was clearly in the court of the Greek government«.

Mr. Schinas commented that the new proposal submitted by the Greek government did not reflect what agreed last week between PM Alexis Tsipras, EC President Jean-Claude Juncker and Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem.

He also stated that Commission Pierre Moscovici informed the Greek government on this development on Tuesday afternoon. When asked whether the European Commission insists upon a 1% primary surplus for 2015, rather than 0.75% which the Greek side has proposed, Mr. Schinas refused to respond.

Similarly, he noted that there was no scheduled meeting between the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. According to the Commission president’s announced schedule, he is only expected to present at the EU-CELAC summit in Brussels.
