The prosecution has urged the Felony Appeal Court of Athens to reject the application filed by Vicky Stamati for a suspended prison sentence. Μrs. Stamati, wife of the convicted former Minister of National Defense Akis Tsohatzopoulos, has been sentence to 12 year imprisonment and has filed six applications for a suspended sentence, in order to be “close to her child”.
The prosecutors however argued against such a prospect, pointing out Mrs. Stamati’s recent escape from the Dromokaitio psychiatric hospital, where she has been kept. The prosecutors specifically noted that Mrs. Stamati acted as if she would not face any consequences. A court decision is pending.
Meanwhile, the courts accepted the application for a suspended prison sentence by Giorgos Sachpatzidis, a former associate of Mr. Tsohatzopoulos. The courts decided 3-2 to allow Mr. Sachpatzidis a suspended sentence, provided he does not leave the country, appears twice a month at a local police department and pays a 50,000 euro bail.
