A 27-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday morning, after he held a 39-year-old woman hostage on board he Crete II ferry boat, that was traveling from Heraklion to Piraeus.

According to reports, 27-year-old man broke a glass and constantly threatened the 39-year-old woman. None of the other 612 passengers were harmed. A special negotiator was called out by the Coast Guard to mediate and defuse the situation.

Upon arriving in Piraeus, Coast Guard officers boarded the Crete II and promptly arrested the 27-year-old man. The 39-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in Athens for first aid.

The Alternate Minister of Shipping and the Aegean Theodoros Dritsas was constantly informed about the progress of the operation and congratulated the authorities for the positive outcome and their efforts.
