SYRIZA has issued a statement condemning the recent neo-Nazi attacks against Greek expatriates living in Ukraine, while accusing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of remaining speechless.

The opposition party’s head of foreign affairs sectors Rena Dourou explained that the neo-Nazi “Pravyi Sektor” (Right Sector) has targeted Greek expatriates living in Ukraine, citing reports of the Greek expatriate federation’s president Alexandra Prochenko.

Mrs. Prochenko spoke to Euronews that there are eleven MPs and six district governors of Greek descent in Ukraine and that there are many villages where Greek is the predominant language.

Amongst the Right Sector’s legislative demands, which include the decriminalization of «Nazi propaganda», is the banning of all minority languages, which includes Greek.

Mrs. Dourou accused the Minister of Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizelos of speechlessness, since the Ministry’s official statement does not include any reference to the matter.

The Opposition MP asserted that “the 150,000 expatriates targeted by the neo-Nazis are not a priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explaining Mr. Venizelos’ speechlessness”.
