According to a report by the Avgi newspaper, 21 high school students have been summoned by the courts to address charges of obstructing the operation of a public school, in reference to school occupations that took place in 2011 and 2012.

The courts have specifically summoned 8 students from a high school in Volos and 13 students from a high school in Loutraki and if found guilty, the students could face up to 6 months of imprisonment. Curiously, there is no mention of any damages, suggesting that the students are being charged for the school shut down.

According to the newspaper report, the majority of students from Volos were part of the student council in 2012. The ELME teacher union of Magnesia has expressed its support to the students, arguing that the problems of the school community do not necessitate the intervention of the police.

One of students from Loutraki commented in the Avgi that when his school was occupied in 2011, the Ministry of Education had resorted to handing out photocopies, as it had failed to ensure that there were enough text books.
