The Parliamentary Ethics Committee convened yesterday and voted 8-to-1 in favor of proposing the funding suspension of Golden Dawn. The proposal will be discussed at the Parliamentary Assembly on Tuesday.

The Minister of Interior Yannis Michelakis explained that «it is inconceivable for the state and taxpayers to fund parties that accused of being criminal or terrorist organizations and are hiding under the shroud of political parties”. Parliament recently passed a law providing the suspension of state funding for parties whose leading officers are accused of criminal or terrorist activities.

Mr. Michelakis further supported his proposal for funding suspension by citing the military structure and organization of Golden Dawn, in relation to the plethora of witness reports and evidence regarding the criminal aspects of the ultra nationalist party.
