PASOK is celebrating 39 years since its founding and has arranged a two-day symposium to highlight the historic party’s contribution in establishing democratic values and institutions during the regime change.

The celebrations began at the “Ellinikos Kosmos” culture center, with the president of the Institute for Strategic and Growth Studies Christos Dervenis and PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos opening the ceremony.

As evident by the symposium’s title “From the Regime Change to the crisis. From the crisis to recovery. PASOK and the Greek reality: 1974-2014”, the main focus will be on the changes effected since the regime change in 1974 up to the current financial crisis.

Tomorrow’s main topics will be the State and economy before and after the crisis, establishing a social state, foreign and European politics and the path to recovery. A number of important center-left divs will speak at the conference, such as I. Voulgaris, An. Giannitsis, I. Kalogirou, N. Christodoulakis, V. Rapanos, Ar. Doxiadis, G. Pagoulatos, Il. Mosialos, N. Maratzidis, N. Bistis, St. Benos, G. Vernikos and more.

Historic PASOK members and former ministers will also participate, such as Vaso Papandreou, Kostas Skandalidis, Petros Efthimiou, Apostolos Kaklamanis, Paraskevas Avgerinos, Dimitris Reppas, Christos Protopapas, as well as the Party and Youth Secretaries N. Androulakis and P. Christidis.

The closing ceremonies are expected to generate a lot of interest as former Prime Ministers and party leaders Kostas Simitis and Giorgos Papandreou are scheduled to speak. Current president Venizelos, who will also speak, is expected to rally his voters and send a message of hope.
