The Ministry of Finances Anti-Corruption Group has distributed a Code of Ethics and Conduct pamphlet to all employees in the tax services, to address cases of corruption and poor customer services.

According to a report by “Ta Nea”, the ethics code scrutinizes kickbacks and expects employees to treat citizens with respect and politeness. It further explains how employees are not allowed to prioritize and favor cases over others and that any errors infringing the rights of a tax-payer must be rectified immediately.

The new Ethics and Conduct guide also stresses the consistency in replying to citizen questions and requests, regardless of whether they are made in person, in writing or over the phone.

The guide concludes that “only by the daily implementation of these principles with the real value of the employee will be revealed” and “that is the way the Ministry of Finances will have a modern and functional service”.
