The Deputy Minister of Finances Christos Staikouras announced that the primary balance during the first four months of 2013 is within targets.

According to Mr. Staikouras the primary deficit was 330 million euros, when it was 1.7 billion euros during the same period in 2012. The goal was a 3.6 billion euro primary deficit. During these first four months of 2013, the budge deficit was 2.4 billion euros, compared to the target of 5.7 billion euros. The Deputy Minister explained that “April is the first month f year where we achieved our tax revenue goals”.

Revenue from VAT was 66 million euros less than expected, with 43 million derived from the VAT of petroleum products. Despite this, evidence suggests that the revenue deficit before tax returns is about 437 million euros.
