The Prime Minister and his government partners want to push forward a series of initiatives for the so-called “political money”, in light of the recent revelations of the situation at PASOK.

PM Samaras will likely initiated a discussion about changing the way political parties are funded, so that there is an independent authority rather than a parliamentary committee performing inspections. Mr. Samaras has authorized the Minister of Interior Stylianidis to process a relevant bill that will provide a significant cut in state funding. During the discussions to follow, PASOK and DIMAR will introduce their proposal of allowing private funding though transparent procedures.

The Prime Minister also wants to introduce measures for the property declarations of political divs and to form an independent auditing body from all three supreme courts. Mr. Samaras is also in favor of retroactive inspections of assets of political leaders, ministers, general secretaries and senior state officers from 1974 onwards.

In designing the bill, Mr. Stylianidis will take into consideration all European data and standards. His purpose, as he admits, is to combat “black money” by establishing a new political culture, a contemporary democracy. Mr. Venizelos is preparing to present his own suggests about the funding of political parties and ensuring transparency.
