The European Commission has asked that Greece return 9.2 million euros from agriculture funds that it received in violation of European legislation. In total, the 22 EU members will have to return 414 million euros.
Specifically, Greece has to return 5.2 million euros for adjustments to outstanding payments and exceeding limits, 3.6 million euros for adjustments to livestock premiums and 400,000 euros from exceeding public storage costs.
The member states are responsible for disbursement and expense control, as part of the common agricultural policy, with the Commission ensuring that funds are used appropriately. The 414 million euros will return to the EU budge, due to non-compliance with EU directives or negligent check procedures of agricultural expenses.
The greatest fiscal adjustments are noted in Great Britain, with 111.7 million euros over the inability to identify fields and geographic information systems during application process, administrative checks and on-the-spot checks regarding area improvements.
