According to INE-GSEE science advisor Giorgos Romanias, the rate of unemployment in 2013 will be over 30%, more than official estimations. According to Mr. Romanias, there will be 2.3 million unemployed, compared to 1,350,181 documented in November 2012.

Mr. Romanias condemned the destruction of the traditional production model (retail, tourism, construction) without planning a new one. The science advisor explained that the sectors of construction, tourism and retail, need support in order to combat the problem of rampant unemployment.

Mr. Romanias is in favor of a new production model, however “that does not mean we must destroy the traditional model before we define the next one”. He then added though that “there are no specifics about the new production model”.

According to the science advisor, the data of the real economy suggests that there were 2 million unemployed by the end of 2012, which will swell to 2.3 million unemployed by the end of 2013.
