The upcoming conference of DIMAR’s central committee will take place on the 9th and 10th of February and party president Fotis Kouvelis expects tension due to the disagreements regarding party policies.
At the conference the main issues expected to be discussed are the political developments and DIMAR’s action plan, in light of the escalating social reactions to government politics. Mr. Kouvelis will attempt to give a sense of direction to his party, after the Eurogroup and assurances that Greece will remain in the EU. He faces criticism from members of his party, as well as the “Left Network” minority.
The DIMAR leadership is determined to continue as planned, by pointing out how it has had an impact on state reforms, public administration, changes to the political system, while supporting social cohesion by focusing on growth initiatives and combating unemployment.
The internal opposition however will have its fair share of counterarguments, most notably the dominance of New Democracy and Antonis Samaras against striking employees (such as in public transport and maritime workers), the extent of taxation, as well as the recent issue regarding the naturalization of foreigners.
