Commuters and travelers were disappointed and angry when after queuing up to purchase new travelcards, they were told to pay the full 45-euro price, despite the Ministry of Transport’s promise that there would be a discount due to the recent public transport strikes.
The discount was decided upon to make up to travelcard owners for the days when public transport was disrupted due to the extensive strikes. According to executives of the ministry, the discount for the January strikes “will happen, but for the travelcards issued for March”. The discount requires a ministerial decree, which was not ready in time for the discount to be effective in February.
