The Greek government has blasted the Austrian government’s decision to hold a summit meeting with Western Balkan states to discuss the refugee crisis and exclude Greece from the process.

The meeting, which will see the participation of Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Croatia, FYROM, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia, takes place on Wednesday, a day ahead of the planned meeting in Brussels of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dubbed the Austrian government’s unilateral initiative to be “non friendly”, arguing that this is an attempt to made decisions affecting Greece and Greek borders, in the absence of Grece.

Athens also underlined that this provocative initiative was announced only hours after the recent EU summit concluded and stressed that initiatives such as those of Austria are actively undermining the European vision and integration.

Vienna has rejected the criticism, claiming that such a meeting was held in the fall and that the outcome will debated at Thursday’s EU summit in Brussels.
