A group of eight NGOs operating in the refugee centers in Greece have issued a statement warning about how security is deteriorating.

The statement, which is signed by Solidarity Now, the International Rescue Committee, the International Federation of Red Cross, the Danish Refugee Council, the Greek Forum of Refugees, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Oxfam and Save the Children, has called for a meeting he Alternate Minister of Migration Policy Yannis Mouzalas. The minister told the Athens Macedonia News Agency that he intends to meet with the NGOs and values their observations.

In their statement the NGOs explain how the lack of understanding and appropriate response from authorities may often increase the possibility of violent clashes. This is in turn affecting the refugees, employees and local residents, causing even greater concern.

Additionally, the NGOs point out that there is often confusion as to whether the Police or Hellenic Army are in charge of security in certain centers and underline the need for grater cooperation and understanding.
