Senior police officers who spoke to To Vima expressed their surprise at the development, since Mr. Sfakianakis was regarded as an important asset to the force, having proven himself during his tenure as a supervisor in the internal affairs division.

New Democracy responded by demanding that Sfakianakis be reinstated as director of the Cyber Crime Division. The main opposition party accused the government of “profound and provocative behavior” and called the government to reconsider.
