The Greek people are the international champions of pessimism, according to a worldwide study conducted by Pew Research and which was published in a Bloomberg report.

According to the study which was carried in 44 countries, when asked whether they expected their economic situation to deteriorate over the next 12 months, 53% of Greeks responded yes. The second most pessimistic people are the French, 48% of whom also expected to see their finances deteriorate.

The Bloomberg report argues that the French people rival Greeks for pessimism, citing the recent economic downturn that has stifled growth and exacerbated unemployment. Over 90% of respondents from Greece, Italy and Spain claim the situation is “bad”, compared to 88% of the French participants.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Germany: about 85% of German respondents declared their economic situation to be good, while only 23% were concerned about rising prices.
