The Ministry of Finances is considering overhauling the taxation system in Greece, as despite the many efforts to simplify and streamline it in recent years, the problems persist.

The recent ENFIA debacle, taxation reforms and penalties perfectly illustrate the need for serious changes to the taxation system, with tax-payers, customs and tax officers stressing the current taxation system’s inefficiencies.

As such, the Deputy Minister of Finances Giorgos Mavraganis has approved the formation of an 8-member committee which will identify instances of over-taxation and excessive bureaucracy and examine their causes. The committee will also be tasked with submitting proposals to address these issues.

The General Secretary of Public Revenue Katerina Savvaidou will preside over the 8-member committee, which will convene once a month at the Finance Ministry.
