The European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn is currently in Thessaly, as part of a planned tour of the 13 Greek districts that aims to ensure the most efficient use of European Structural Funds ahead of planning for the 2014-2020 period.
Mr. Hahn has arranged to meet with the District Governor of Thessaly Kostas Agorastos and will inspect local EU-funded projects. Later in the day he will deliver a speech at an event co-hosted by the EU delegation in Greece and the District of Thessaly. On Friday the European Commissioner will meet with members of the Industrial Association of Thessaly and Central Greece.
Over the next six years Greece will receive about 15.52 billion euros from the new funding programs of the EU’s Cohesion Policy. Greece will also be called to manage 18 regional and sectoral operational programs, along with European territorial cooperation programs with neighboring countries
