It has only been a few days since the cabinet reshuffle and the first discords have emerged, with the newly-appointed Minister of Education Andreas Loverdos clashing with the Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the Government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos are concerned and want any escalation of potentially divisive tensions, particularly in relation to Ministries that are tasked with implementing troika-mandated reforms.

To that end, the two Ministers were summoned to the PM’s office, in order to find a solution to the problem and to send a clear message to the other members of the Ministerial Council that any disagreements that may damage the government will not be tolerated.

Specifically Mr. Samaras did not his ministers to give the impression that they are unable to communicate with one another, nor is he prepared to regularly have to balance on a tightrope. On the contrary, he wants the ministerial cabinet to focus on the implementation of their goals and to coordinate their efforts in order to prepare for a number of difficult votes in Parliament.
