Further delays were announced for the railroad plans that have been discussed for about a century, due to the NSRF funds not being enough to cover all of the proposed projects.

The projects that have been approved are updating the railway in the capital, Thessaly as well as the Thessaloniki-Idomeni, Thessaloniki-Promachonas and (possibly) the Alexandroupouli-Ormenio railroad lines.

The abandoned projects are the proposed Kalabaka-Kozani, Kalabaka-Ioannina-Igoumenitsa, Florina-Chrystalopigi-Kpashtice lines, as well as the improvements on the Platy-Edessa-Florina, Mesonisi-Kaykasos and Amyntaio-Kozani lines.

Furthermore the plans for the creation of Western Axis connecting Antirrio and Ioannina have been postponed indefinitely, as well as the Sphinx tunnel and Thessaloniki-Amfipoli-Kavala train line. These abandoned and postponed projects are worth 6 billion euros.
