The Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras is scheduled to meet with representatives of the farmer unions today at 1pm in the afternoon in order to begin discussions. The farmer unions had demanded an audience with Mr. Stournaras last week, to present to him their demands regarding the cost of production and tax debt settlement.

Meanwhile in Thessaly, the farmers have announced that a rally will take place at 3pm at the Nikea junction and have called for farmers and employees from other sectors to join them in their struggle.

Amongst the farmer demands are to abolish the provision of keeping revenue and expenses books for farmers, whose turnover is less than 40,000 euros, establishing a 20,000-euro tax-free family threshold (which increases by 5,000 euro per child) and to put an end to the persecution of farmers unable to pay tax debts. The unions have also called for the government to take initiatives to reduce the cost of production.
