The government Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizelos is currently in the USA, where he is scheduled to meet with the Secretary of State John Kerry and the Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew.

On Thursday Mr. Venizelos will meet with Mr. Kerry to discuss bilateral and international matters, as well as issues relevant to the Greek EU presidency. On Friday the Greek official is scheduled to meet with Jack Lew to update him on the progress of the Greek economy and the Greek EU presidency’s financial priorities.

In his summer trip to Greece in July, Mr. Lew noted that while the USA and EU have a different approach on tackling the financial crisis, he noted the important relation of American and European growth. Diplomatic circles have pointed out that the meeting with Mr. Lew is “especially important”, due to the timing with Greece’s EU presidency and global financial developments.

Mr. Venizelos will meet with members of Congress, including the Chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Robert Menendez and the Chairman of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs Ed Royce. Additionally, Mr. Venizelos will also meet representatives of Greek diasporic communities and organizations, as well as American think tanks.
