A 29-year-old man of Albanian descent was shot dead on the corner of Koletti and Themistokleous in the downtown area of Exarchia, shortly before 8pm on Sunday evening. The man was shot seven times with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and stabbed once with a knife.

According to eye witnesses the two assailants ambushed the victim, with one firing the rifle and the other using a knife. After the attack they promptly disappeared on a motor cycle. An ambulance rushed the man to the “Elpis” hospital, but he succumbed to his serious wounds.

The police recovered a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a pistol at the scene of the attack, which are thought to belong to the victim. While the investigation is still underway, the police suspect that the attack was to settle a score between gangs over narcotics.
