The discussions with the troika representatives on the controversial lift of a temporary ban on the auctioning of primary residences are scheduled to take place in November, according to the Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis.

The Minister, who was invited to comment on Mega Channel’s morning chat show, explained that the issue will not be posed during the upcoming evaluation in September and that the relevant legislative amendment would be submitted in Parliament in December,

Mr. Hatzidakis tried to reassure homeowners by explaining that the current legal framework offer “complete” protection of primary residences and as such there is no need to worry.

He did however warn “those who pretend to be poor”, namely lenders who are taking advantage of the legislation and avoid paying their loans despite being able to.
