In an interview for Ta Nea, the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier underlined the need for Greek authorities to implement the reforms in order to boost trust.

The German Minister expressed his belief that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has the mandate and capacity to implement these reforms, as well as the opportunity to reap the political fruits from their implementation.

With regards to Greece’s public debt, Mr. Steinmeier noted that it would be best for all sides to not present new desires or demands every time any difficulties arise. He also admitted that he has agreed with his Greek counterpart to overcome the misunderstandings of recent years.

Visit to Athens on Thursday

The German Minister of Foreign Affairs will also be visiting Athens on Thursday for a series of critical meetings with Greek officials.

The President of the Hellenic RepublicProkopis Pavlopouloswill receive Mr. Steinmeier at 13:00, who will be accompanied by Greek counterpartNikos Kotzias. Mr. Steinmeier will then be received by Prime MinisterAlexis Tsiprasat 13:30

Following these meetings, Mr. Steinmeier will have a discussion and business lunch with Greek Foreing Affairs Minister Kotzias at 14:00, with a joint press conference scheduled for 14:30. Mr. Kotzias will accompany the German official to the Eugenides Foundation in the evening, where he will be presented with an honorary doctorate from the University of Piraeus.
