The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz argued that he does not understand why Alexis Tsipras wants to renew his alliance with Panos Kammenos.
Mr. Schulz told France Inter that he contacted the SYRIZA leader after the election results were announced and asked him why he is allied with the «strange far-right party».
He revealed that Mr. Tsipras essentially did not provide answer noting that «He pretty much didn’t answer. He is very clever, especially by telephone. He told me things that seemed convincing, but which ultimately in my eyes are a little bizarre».
Independent Greeks respond to Schulz
Following the statement on the continuation of the alliance with SYRIZA, the Independent Greeks responded and expressed its disappointment in “Mr. Schulz’s lack of respect for the institution that he serves, with his intervention in the domestic affairs of the country”.
Furthermore, the Independent Greeks stress that “aside from the insult to the Greek people and the Independent Greeks, [Mr. Schulz] must realize that he cannot call every party that does not take commissions from the defense industries that finance him ‘far right’ without repercussions”.
