A powerful explosive device that was found by accident in a back yard in Metamorfosi on Thursday morning has puzzled the police. The device was located by the home owner himself.
According to preliminary reports, the device was enclosed in a 30-liter plastic container, which included about 20 kilos of explosives (possibly ammonium dynamite), three detonators and two pieces of a fuse wire among others.
Upon closer inspection of the explosive device, the police noticed burn marks, which suggests that an attempt was made to detonate the device. Had it exploded, the police estimate that serious damages would have been caused. The adverse weather conditions may have been responsible for the failure.
While there is little indication as to where the device was intended to be used, the relatives of a long-term prison convict, who is to testify in a court case, reside near where the bomb was discovered. The police hope to recover fingerprints or other evidence that may lead them to the culprits.
