A critical European Union summit begins on Friday in Bratislava, where the member states will discuss Europe’s future in light of the recent ‘Brexit’ in the UK.
Upon arrival at the summit, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told journalists that “what Europe needs right now is a new vision and a concrete agenda for change”, adding that “we needs a social Europe, with growth, employment and prosperity for everyone”.
Commenting on the refugee crisis, PM Tsipras stressed that Europe must approach the crisis more efficiently and in a humanitarian way, noting that Europe cannot carry on “sleepwalking in the wrong direction”.
Government sources told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that the the Athens Declaration adopted by the EU’s seven Mediterranean countries, during last week’s meeting in the Greek capital, will form the basis of the Greek positions at Friday’s informal summit.
