The municipal council of Kos has decided to carry out a local referendum over the construction of the hot spot on the island, in light of major reactions from a section of residents.

Local mayor Giorgos Kyritsis commented that the general secretary of the municipality has been instructed to make the necessary preparations for the referendum, where local residents will be asked whether they agree or not with the construction of the hot spot.

A representative of resident committee, which openly opposes the hot spot and is reportedly backed by 7,000 local residents, was present at the council meeting.
