The government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili has officially denied media reports suggesting that Greece may be expelled from the Schengen zone in relation to the refugee crisis.
In her statement, Mrs. Gerovasili noted that these “untrue reports” attempt to blame Greece for the refugee crisis and argued that despite the difficulties the Greek government is fulfilling its European obligations, such as the creation of hotspots and protecting the borders. Mrs. Gerovasili added that these developments were recognized in the recent European Summit with Turkey.
“Unfortunately, there are European circles that insist on distorting reality and believing that the future of Europe can be built with fearful reflexes, fences and exclusions” she concluded.
