The government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili stated that the government never requested consent without debate and accused the opposition leaders of attending Saturday’s meeting only out of duty.

In an interview for the radio station of the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, Mrs. Gerovasili underlined that the government never denied its responsibilities, adding that the government’s initiative was an “invitation for discussion” on the major issues, such as the refugee crisis and the pension system reform.

According to the government spokesperson, the opposition leaders who attended the meeting torpedoed that discussion and only attended the meeting out of duty, rather than any willingness to talk.
