The Minister of Heath Panagiotis Kouroumplis insisted that hospitals are excluded from the recent controversial legislative act regarding cash reserves of public bodies, responding the calls for his resignation from the opposition.

Mr. Kouroumplis stressed in his radio interview for Parapolitika that he has not given any explicit orders to transfer any funds and that he merely passed on the act to the hospitals, as he was obliged.

He added that the act “excludes bodies for which their reserves are necessary for the next 15 days” and called New Democracy to “read better” and went on the offensive, accusing the previous governments of distorting healthcare budgets to generate “false surpluses”.

Additionally, the Health Minister announced that as of the start of May hospital patients will be able to get their medication directly from the hospital pharmacies, irrespective of their ailment.
