The Minister of Health Panagiotis Kouroumplis has disputed various media reports which argue that public hospital budgets have suffered major cuts, arguing that “lion’s share contracts» have been signed with German companies at the expense of the State.

Mr. Kouroumplis also revealed that he intends to introduce income criteria for public healthcare and medication, while underlining that there will be no cost increases, but rather a “fairer distribution” intended to support vulnerable taxpayers.

The Health Minister also announced that the “five euro ticket” to receive treatment in public hospitals will be abolished within the next few days and added that the one-euro-per-prescription fee will be abolished in the second half of the year.
