The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had a half-hour telephone discussion with US Vice President Joe Bidden on Thursday afternoon, with the two men discussing energy matters, the latest developments in the Ukrainian crisis and regional stability.

The American government has focused its attention in the Middle East and Balkans region, with the Secretary of State John Kerry considering a trip to Athens and Cyprus at the end of April or early May.

In its press release the White House praised Greece for its role as a strategic partner and NATO ally. Additionally, the White House commented that Mr. Bidden welcomed Greece’s financial recovery and implementation of reform, while committing the USA’s support.

The White House will hold its annual celebration of the Greek War of Independence on Friday, where US President Barrack Obama, Vice President Joe Bidden and Archbishop Demetrius are expected to deliver a speech.
