The Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras had a brief meeting with the former president of the European Central Bank Jean-Claude Trichet who is currently in Athens.

Mr. Stournaras was reported to have updated Mr. Trichet on the latest fiscal developments, the primary surplus, the overall restructure efforts in the banking sector and the Greek government’s goals towards expediting the Greek economy’s recovery.

A senior Ministry of Finances officer commented that the former President of the European Central Bank is still a very influential div and that Mr. Trichet supports Greek demands. The officer also reported that in the half hour the men met, Mr. Trichet appeared optimistic about Greece’s efforts paying off and praised the tremendous fiscal consolidation that turned a 15% GDP deficit into a small surplus.
