The employees of the Thessaloniki Metro have announced that they will go on a 24-hour strike today, in response to the dismissals in the project’s archeological department.

In their statement the employees demand that the archeological department be reinstated and funded until the necessary work is complete to ensure that antiquities found during construction are studied, maintained and exhibited.

The employees claim that the management of Attiko Metro, who is handling the subway construction in Thessaloniki, is acting against the wishes of the relevant committees and ministerial decree.

The construction of the Metro network in Thessaloniki has been plagued by delays, in part due to the antiquities discovered during the dig.
