After a long series of delays that began in 2010 with the collapse of the concession agreement due to the financial crisis, the Minister of Infrastructure Michalis Chrysochoidis will submit new agreements, paving the way for the recommencement of major projects.

The Minister noted that after a year and a half of negotiations and the support of the EU, he has come to mutually-accepted agreements by all implicated parties, which it turn means that the major projects will resume. Mr. Chrysochoidis explained that the investments over the next three years will result in the creation of 20,000 jobs and a 1.5% increase of the GDP.

Mr. Chrysochoidis also stressed that transparency is one of his top priorities and that he has decided to send copies of all contracts to auditing bodies, to ensure that everything is above board on major projects. The Court of Auditors has already given the thumbs up and now they will be discussed and voted upon in Parliament, so that EU funds can become available by the end of the year.
