The Golden Dawn MP Antonis Gregos caused some commotion yesterday at the “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport in Athens, when his gun went off. In response, the Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias has ordered all firearm licenses granted to members of parliament to be re-examined.

According to the police report, Mr. Gregos was traveling to Thessaloniki and after the check-in was obliged to hand in his gun to the airport security, so that it is safely stored for the trip. It is not entirely clear how it occurred, but the gun misfired. Luckily the bullet hit the ground and did not ricochet or injure anyone.

The relevant police committee granting fire-arm licenses will investigate the circumstances of the even and whether the terms and conditions of fire-arm possession have been violated. DIMAR issued an announcement asking for further investigation since many Golden Dawn MPs, “are implicated in judicial cases”.
