At midday on Monday the Queen of Jordan Rania Al-Abdullah arrived on the island of Lesvos where she visited migrants and refugees at the Kara Tepe camp.

The Queen tweeted that “the international community must support humanitarian agencies like the IRC and UNHCR for their tireless work in helping refugees” and that “the global community must find legal alternatives and pathways to safety, and work on long term sustainable solutions to this crisis”.

Furthermore she underlined that “we must bring humanity and compassion back into the narrative because the refugee crisis is about people, not borders and barriers” and that “responsibility for refugees cannot be defined by geography. It is greater than any one country or any one region’s capacity to cope”.
