Is it possible that a people that has suffered dearly and has mourned millions of victims, to believe that it can gain its security from the carnage of unarmed and innocent children? The never-ending tragedy in Gaza and the Israeli leadership’s stubbornness cancel out the country’s justifiable claims. When you ignore the calls of the UN’s General Secretary, the Security Council, religious leaders such as the Pope and the Patriarch, or the pressure from leaders such as Obama, Merkel and Hollande, when a large part of the international public opinion is against you, you cannot win any war…

The horrific images of young children being victims, the attacks against hospitals, UN schools and playgrounds cannot but create a sense of disgust that will urge a suffering people, which mourns dozens of victims every day, to even more extreme reactions/

Historically, humanitarian catastrophes have never been the solution to threats. The cycle of blood in this tragic corner of the world is neither ending, nor can the solution to violence be more violence. The past few blood-soaked decades have not resulted in peace or security. It is time that the voices of reason, discussion and negotiation prevailed; and, aside from those implicated, it is the responsibility of the international community to put an end to this endless massacre.
