Employee unions are protesting outside the Ministry of Labor demanding that the government takes substantial measures to protect the unemployed. The protest was initiative of the Athens Syndicate of Builders and the Shipyard Zone Syndicate.

Prior to the protest outside the Labor Ministry, the employee unions held a rally at Omonia Square. As a result of the rally, traffic in downtown Athens has been affected, as Stadiou Street has been blocked off.

Amongst the union demands are the introduction of an emergency unemployment benefit, taking unemployment in considering for pensions, increasing and bolstering the current unemployment benefit, ensuring that electricity supply of the unemployed is not cut off and banning the special consumption tax on heating oil.
