The Olympic Games for 2016 that were carried out in Rio de Janeiro came to a spectacular close on Sunday, where Greek athletes won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. This is the 5th best performance for Greece in the modern Olympics.

Anna Korakaki won the first two medals for Greece in shooting, followed by a gold medal from world rings champion Eleftherios Petrounias. Marathon swimmer Spyridon Gianniotis came second in the 10km race, narrowly missing the gold.

Another gold medal came from pole vault champion Katerina Stefanidi, while Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis won the bronze medal in the men’s 460 (dinghy) sailing event.
