The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias revealed that Greece will formally call German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend a trilateral summit to debate the refugee crisis.

This is an initiative of the Prime Minister [Alexis Tsipras] which support in practice at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to call a meeting at Chios between Merkel, Erdogan and us – we even plan to cross over toe Smyrni afterwards to see both sides” the Minister told Mega Channel.

Although no date has been set, Mr. Kotzias estimated that the meeting would take place at some point in early February. Both Mrs. Merkel and Mr. Erdogan are said to have agreed to such a meeting.

It has been estimated that over 750,000 refugees have crossed over into Europe via the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea since the start of the year.
