The Vice President of Parliament and SYRIZA MP Alexis Mitropoulos argued that irrespective of the agreement that will be reached with the country’s creditors, the government must tell the Greek people that it will implement a bailout.

Mr. Mitropoulos argued on ANT1 that “even [Italian PM] Mr. Renzi called our government to abolish early pensions […] so consequently we must honestly truthfully and respectfully tell our people that we will implement a bailout, regardless of the agreement”.

Furthermore, Mr. Mitropoulos commented that the 20 February agreement essentially gave the Greek government two options; either to come to an agreement, based on the bailout, or a rupture. However, he added, “both the government and Prime Minister have ruled out a rupture”.

As such, he further explained, any agreement that emerges – whether it is based on proposals by the Greek government or the institutions – will include painful measures that the Left has never implemented in its history. He further estimated that SYRIZA’s parliamentary group will have great difficulty in accepting the measures accompanying such an agreement.
