The General Inspector of Public Administration Leandros Rakintzis appeared before the Institutions and Transparency Committee in Parliament to report on his 2013 findings and argued that certain divs are ‘protected’ from inspections.

Mr. Rakintzis argued that “there is a tendency of bureaucratic and other sort of obstacles appearing” and asked “have you seen a celebrity go through trial easily?”

When questioned by SYRIZA MP Theodoros Dritsas, the General Inspector stated that his efforts to refer certain celebrities are blocked and he is unable to do anything when exculpatory rulings are issued. Mr. Dritsas spoke of carefully planned efforts to absolve celebrities from liability.

Many MPs on the Committee demanded the names of the celebrities that appear to have protection from inspections. Mr. Rakintzis referred to that absolves the management of public utilities from the liability of their decisions and commented that it conceals immunity.
