The government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos announced that his coalition with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will guarantee the country’s stability, on his way out from the Prime Minister’s office. The discussion of the two leaders came after the Baltakos scandal emerged on Tuesday.

Mr. Venizelos further explained that there was a need to further support and increase the coalition government’s progressive element, which is represented by PASOK in the government. Additionally, Mr. Venizelos stressed that the parliamentary discussion requested by SYRIZA will be on the agenda.

The PASOK leader rejected the rumor that his party would abandon the coalition and stressed that his party has undertaken the responsibility to play an important role in establishing a national strategy and the rule of law.

Additionally, Mr. Venizelos indirectly accused SYRIZA – by referring to “some parties” – for adopting the Golden Dawn’s arguments for short-term political gains. The PASOK president also revealed that his party would reexamine the bills that Mr. Baltakos blocked in Parliament, which includes anti-racism, immigration and co-habitation legislation.

The Prime Minister stated that he opposed Golden Dawn “from the start” and will not allow a criminal organization or any government executive to regulate the political life in Greece. Mr. Samaras further noted that his government fully trusts the judicial system and will carry on with necessary stability and unity.
