Members of opposition leaders SYRIZA have announced their intention to create a new “patriotic sect”, which will emerge from “socialist circles”.
This sect is set to include SYRIZA members such as Panagiotis Kouroublis, Alexis Mitropoulos, Dimitris Tsoukalas, Kostas Chrysogonos, Antonis Kotsakas and Yannis Michelogiannakis.
SYRIZA MP Dimitris Tsoukalas explained that “we wish to support leftist anti-imperialist patriotism” adding that “we must not surrender patriotism to the homeland mongers”. According to Mr. Tsoukalas, this new sect will focus employment and national issues, such as the EEZs.
SYRIZA secretary Dimitris Vitsas is expected to be present at the presentation of the new sect, which will simultaneously send a message of party unity while appealing to PASOK voters.
